Road electric bikes combine the speed and efficiency of a traditional road bike with the range-extending power of a motor — ideal for fitness riders, fast commuters, and anyone who wants to cover serious distance on Canada's road cycling infrastructure.
What defines a road electric bike?
Road e-bikes feature lightweight aluminium or carbon frames, 700C wheels with narrow-to-medium tires (28–38mm), drop or flat bars, and efficient motor systems prioritising speed and range over torque. The ENVO Stax series exemplifies this category with its sleek integrated battery design.
How fast can road e-bikes go?
Street-legal road e-bikes in Canada are limited to 32 km/h motor-assisted speed. Above that threshold, the rider pedals unassisted. Lightweight frames and narrow tires make it easy to maintain 30–40 km/h on flat terrain with moderate effort.
Are road e-bikes good for fitness?
Yes — studies show e-bike commuters pedal more frequently and cover greater distances than conventional cyclists. The assist takes the pressure off long climbs, encouraging riders to go further while still providing a genuine cardiovascular workout.
Do road e-bikes qualify for BC's PST exemption?
Complete road e-bikes rated ≤500W and ≤32 km/h qualify for BC's PST exemption, making them more affordable than comparable fitness equipment at the same price point.
Can I convert a road bike to electric?
Yes — our conversion kits include 350W options that work on most road bike frames, adding electric assist without significantly changing the bike's handling characteristics.
