Good news: you can take your e-bike on TransLink. SkyTrain, buses, SeaBus, West Coast Express — Metro Vancouver's entire transit network accommodates electric bikes. But there are rules, weight limits, and capacity restrictions that are worth knowing before you arrive at the platform.

Quick Reference: E-Bikes on TransLink Services

Service E-Bikes Allowed? Notes
Expo & Millennium Line ✓ Yes Max 2 bikes per car
Canada Line ✓ Yes Max 1 bike per car
Evergreen Extension ✓ Yes Max 2 bikes per car
Bus ✓ Yes Front rack (2 max); folding e-bikes inside
Bike Bus ✓ Yes Under 75 lbs (34 kg) only
SeaBus ✓ Yes Walk-on; North Shore to downtown
West Coast Express ✓ Yes Dedicated bike car available

TransLink treats e-bikes the same as regular bicycles across all services — no special permit, no additional fare. The one exception that matters most for e-bike owners is the Bike Bus weight limit: under 75 lbs (34 kg). Most commuter e-bikes fall in the 22–32 kg range. Cargo e-bikes and fat tire models may push above this, so check your specs before heading to the Bike Bus stop.

SkyTrain: Capacity Limits & Platform Rules

  • Expo, Millennium & Evergreen Lines: Maximum 2 bikes per car
  • Canada Line: Maximum 1 bike per car

During peak hours, bike spaces can fill up before you board. Plan a buffer in your schedule, or consider travelling just outside peak times. You must walk your e-bike on platforms, in stations, and at bus loops — do not ride. Your bike must be clean, have no sharp edges, and you must hold it at all times while on board.

Buses: Front Rack & Folding Options

Most TransLink buses have a front bike rack (max 2 bikes). If you ride a folding e-bike, you can bring it inside the bus folded and covered — avoiding the rack and giving you more security, especially in wet weather.

SeaBus: The North Shore Connection

The SeaBus connects Waterfront Station to Lonsdale Quay and accommodates e-bikes at all times. Ride the North Shore Spirit Trail to Lonsdale Quay, hop the SeaBus, and you're at Waterfront Station in 12 minutes — one of the best transit-cycling combos in Metro Vancouver.

West Coast Express: Fraser Valley Commuters

Serves Mission, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Coquitlam, and Port Moody with a dedicated bike car — one of the most e-bike-friendly commuter rail services in BC. Combine it with an e-bike for the first and last mile and you have one of the most efficient commuting setups in Metro Vancouver.

Key Tips for E-Bike Riders

  1. Know your bike's weight before the Bike Bus — must be under 34 kg. Check the product spec sheet.
  2. Avoid peak hours on Canada Line — the 1-bike-per-car limit makes it most restrictive during rush hour.
  3. Consider parking at the station — Bike Parkades cost $1/day, max $8/month. See our Bike Parkade guide.
  4. Hold your bike at all times on SkyTrain — stand in the designated bike space.
  5. Check translink.ca for current peak-hour rules before you go.

Looking for a Transit-Friendly E-Bike?

A lightweight commuter e-bike (under 28 kg) or a folding model gives you the most flexibility across all TransLink services. Our BC team can help you choose.
