Last updated: April 2026. We verify each program directly against official government sources before publishing.

Canada has more e-bike rebate and incentive programs than most people realize — spread across provinces, territories, and individual municipalities. But the landscape changes constantly: programs end without much notice, new ones launch, and others get paused when funding runs dry.

We've done the legwork. This guide covers every Canadian e-bike incentive we could find as of April 2026 — what's active, what's paused, what ended recently, and what's been promised but not yet delivered. Bookmark it and check back, because this space moves fast.

Quick summary: There are currently 7 confirmed active programs in Canada, 1 major program paused (but relaunching soon), 5 recently ended programs, and 1 incentive approved but not yet implemented. There is still no federal e-bike rebate in Canada.

Active E-Bike Rebates & Incentives in Canada (April 2026)

These programs are confirmed active as of April 2026. Always verify directly with the program before purchasing.

1. British Columbia PST Exemption — Province-Wide

Benefit 7% Provincial Sales Tax waived — automatically at checkout
Who qualifies Any BC resident buying a qualifying e-bike from any retailer in BC
Bike requirements Must have pedals, wheels ≥350mm diameter, motor ≤500W, top speed ≤32 km/h, no combustion engine
Application needed None — exemption is applied at point of sale
Expiry Permanent (no end date)
Official source BC Government — PST Bulletin 204

This is the simplest and most universal incentive available to BC residents. Every qualifying e-bike sold in BC is automatically exempt from the 7% Provincial Sales Tax — no forms, no waiting, no rebate application. You just pay less at the till.

On a $3,000 e-bike, that's $210 saved instantly. On a $5,000 cargo e-bike, you're saving $350 before anything else. It applies to both new e-bikes and eligible conversion kits.

Note: You still pay the 5% federal GST. The exemption only removes the provincial portion.

2. BC Scrap-It Program — $750 Rebate

Rebate amount $750
Type Post-purchase rebate (requires vehicle scrapping)
Who qualifies BC residents who scrap a qualifying old vehicle
Bike requirements E-bike must retail for $1,200 or more; purchased from a BC-based Scrap-It participating retailer
Time limit E-bike must be purchased within 30 days of vehicle scrapping approval
Official source scrapit.ca

The BC Scrap-It program is designed for people looking to trade up from a gas vehicle to zero-emission transportation. If you have an old car sitting around that you're ready to retire, you can scrap it and put $750 toward a new e-bike purchased from a participating BC retailer.

The catch is timing: you have a 30-day window from approval to complete your e-bike purchase. Plan ahead, have your retailer lined up, and don't let the window close.

EbikeBC is a registered Scrap-It participating retailer. Learn more about using Scrap-It with us here.

3. Prince Edward Island E-Bike Incentive — $500

Rebate amount $500
Type Post-purchase rebate
Who qualifies PEI residents (1 per calendar year); registered organizations in PEI (up to 5 per year)
Bike requirements Retail price ≥$1,200 (excl. tax), motor ≤500W, max speed ≤32 km/h, max weight 120 kg, 2 or 3 wheels
Contact 902-218-4953
Official source princeedwardisland.ca — E-Bike Incentive

PEI's e-bike incentive is one of the most straightforward programs in the country: $500 flat rebate per qualifying bike, once per calendar year per resident. It applies to both individuals and organizations, making it useful for small businesses looking to build out a fleet of cargo or commuter e-bikes.

Important note for PEI buyers: The 500W motor cap is strict. Many popular e-bikes — including some sold as "750W" or "Class 3" bikes — do not qualify. Verify your motor's rated continuous output before purchasing with this rebate in mind.

4. Banff Residential E-Bike Rebate — Up to $1,000

Rebate amount Up to $500, $750, or $1,000 depending on income tier
Type Post-purchase rebate
Who qualifies Town of Banff residents with proof of residency
Income tiers Standard: up to $500 (50% of purchase); Access Tier 1: up to $750; Access Tier 2: up to $1,000
Bike requirements Must be certified UL 2849 or EN 15194; new or ex-rental (from Banff rental business, purchased after Dec. 9, 2024); conventional e-bikes must be under $5,000 pre-tax (cargo/adaptive bikes exempt from price cap)
Official source banff.ca — Residential Post-Purchase Rebate Program

Banff's residential rebate is one of the more generous municipal programs in Canada, and the income-tiered structure means lower-income residents can recover a higher percentage of their purchase. The 50% cap means you still have skin in the game, but the ceiling is high enough to make a real difference.

The UL 2849 or EN 15194 safety certification requirement is worth noting — most reputable e-bikes from established brands will meet this, but it's worth confirming with your retailer before purchasing specifically for this rebate.

5. Alberta Scrap-It Program — $500 Rebate

Rebate amount $500
Type Post-purchase rebate (requires vehicle scrapping)
Who qualifies Alberta residents 19 years or older who scrap a qualifying vehicle
Bike requirements E-bike must retail for $1,000 or more; purchased from a participating Alberta retailer
Time limit E-bike must be purchased within 30 days of vehicle scrapping
Official source scrapit.ca/ab

Alberta's version of the Scrap-It program works the same way as BC's — scrap an old gas vehicle, buy an e-bike from a participating dealer within 30 days, get $500 back. The minimum bike price is slightly lower than BC ($1,000 vs $1,200), and the rebate is $250 less than BC's version ($500 vs $750).

Still, if you're in Alberta and have an old vehicle you're done with, this is a genuine $500 incentive that's currently active. Combine it with the Banff residential rebate if you live in Banff.

6. City of Nelson E-Bike Financing Program — Up to $8,000 Low-Interest Loan

Benefit Up to $8,000 low-interest loan (covers more than one bike)
Interest rate 3.5% fixed, repaid via Nelson Hydro utility bill
Repayment terms 2 or 5 years
Who qualifies City of Nelson homeowners who live in their own home (Nelson Hydro customers)
What's covered E-bikes, regular bikes, conversion kits, and safety accessories
Status Reopened spring 2026 (launched 2020, has provided 200+ loans)
Official source nelson.ca — E-Bike Program

Nelson's program is unique in Canada — it's not a rebate but a low-interest financing vehicle repaid through your utility bill. Launched in 2020, it has now supported over 200 households and reopened for spring 2026 intake.

The 3.5% interest rate is well below standard financing, and the repayment through your Hydro bill makes it practically invisible. If you're a Nelson homeowner looking to go car-free or reduce driving, this is one of the most practical programs in the country.

7. Canmore E-Bike Rebate — Limited Income-Based Program

Who qualifies Canmore Affordable Services Program members only
Selection method Lottery (high demand — approx. 97 applicants for 25 spots in pilot year)
Status Continuing for 2025 and 2026 after finance committee recommendation
Official source Town of Canmore — contact directly for current intake dates

Canmore's program is deliberately targeted at affordability — it's only available to Canmore Affordable Services Program members and uses a lottery system because demand far exceeds supply. It's not a program most buyers will access, but if you're income-qualified in Canmore it's worth watching for the annual intake window.

Paused Programs — Watch for Relaunch

The following program has temporarily run out of funding but is expected to relaunch. If you're in BC, this one is worth monitoring closely — it's the most substantial individual rebate available in the province.

CleanBC Go Electric — Individual E-Bike Rebate (Up to $1,400) PAUSED

Rebate amount $350 – $1,400 (income-based)
Income tiers Under $38,950 household income → $1,400
$38,951 – $51,130 → $1,000
$51,131 and above → $350
Cargo e-bike rebate Up to $1,700 for businesses, nonprofits, and public sector organizations
Why paused Funding exhausted due to high demand — paused August 2025
Expected relaunch Late spring 2026 — new funding round in preparation
Official source pluginbc.ca — Go Electric Rebates

This was the biggest e-bike rebate in BC — up to $1,400 for low-income residents, and up to $1,700 for businesses buying cargo e-bikes. The program ran out of funding in August 2025 and is currently not accepting applications.

A new funding round is in preparation with a relaunch expected late spring 2026. When it reopens, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis — and based on past rounds, funding moves quickly.

What to do now: Bookmark pluginbc.ca/goelectricrebates and check back regularly. You can also sign up for updates directly through that page. When it reopens, have your purchase receipt and income documentation ready.

We'll also update this page the moment we confirm the relaunch — check back here or contact us if you want us to notify you directly.

Recently Ended Programs

These programs are no longer accepting applications. We're including them here because they're still widely referenced online, and we want to save you the frustration of planning around a rebate that no longer exists.

Yukon Clean Energy E-Bike Rebate — ENDED March 31, 2026

Was: Up to $750 for standard e-bikes, up to $1,500 for cargo e-bikes (25% of purchase price). Available to Yukon residents and organizations.

Why it ended: The Yukon government decided not to renew the program, citing the need to prioritize electricity for home heating. Energy Minister Ted Laking confirmed to the legislature that the program was not being extended beyond March 31, 2026.

If you purchased before March 31, 2026: You may still apply for the rebate — applications can be submitted up to one year from the date of purchase. Visit yukon.ca to check your eligibility window.

Nova Scotia Electrify E-Bike Rebate (EV Assist) — ENDED April 4, 2025

Was: $500 flat rebate for e-bikes retailing $1,200 or more, purchased from Nova Scotia retailers with physical storefronts. Point-of-sale discount applied at time of purchase.

Why it ended: Program funding was exhausted. The NS government abruptly ended rebates for both EVs and e-bikes on April 4, 2025, while continuing rebates for medium and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles.

Is there anything else in Nova Scotia? As of April 2026, there is no active provincial e-bike rebate in Nova Scotia. The program was administered through Next Ride (formerly EV Assist), which continues to monitor provincial developments.

Edmonton Change Your Ride E-Bike Rebate — ENDED October 2023

Was: Up to $750 or 30% of purchase price (whichever is less) for Edmonton residents buying e-bikes certified to CSA, UL, or cETL standards.

Why it ended: Funding was exhausted. The City of Edmonton has not announced a replacement program as of April 2026. Albertans in Edmonton should look to the provincial Alberta Scrap-It program ($500) if they have an old vehicle to trade in.

Saanich E-Bike Incentive Pilot Program — CLOSED

Was: Up to $350 for Saanich residents, income-qualified, combining point-of-sale discounts and PST waiver. Administered as a pilot program.

Why it ended: The pilot ran its course and was not renewed. No replacement program has been announced by the District of Saanich. BC residents in Saanich retain access to the province-wide BC PST exemption and BC Scrap-It program.

Quebec Transport Green Cargo E-Bike Rebate — NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Was: $2,000 rebate for Canadian-made e-cargo bikes used by businesses and e-commerce or food delivery operators.

Current situation: Quebec's main green vehicle program — Roulez Vert — is active but covers only motor vehicles (cars, motorcycles), not bicycles. As of April 2026, there is no active provincial e-bike rebate in Quebec. The Roulez Vert program itself is scheduled to end December 31, 2026.

Approved But Not Yet Available

Toronto E-Bike Tax Incentive — APPROVED — NOT IMPLEMENTED

Toronto City Council approved a motion for an e-bike tax incentive, and it has been referenced in cycling media with figures as high as $1,600. However, as of April 2026, the City of Toronto has not published any official program details — no dollar amounts, no eligibility criteria, no application process.

Do not purchase an e-bike in Toronto expecting this rebate to exist. Until the City formally announces the program with an official application process, treat it as a policy intention, not a working rebate. We will update this section the moment it becomes available.

TRU Kamloops Employee E-Bike Discount — UNVERIFIED FOR 2026

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops previously offered employees up to 10% off an e-bike purchase (max $300) plus optional low-interest financing up to $5,000 for permanent full-time staff. This was last confirmed active in 2023.

We were unable to verify whether this program is still running for 2026. If you're a TRU employee, contact the university's transportation office directly at tru.ca/transportation/cycling to confirm current availability.

Is There a Federal E-Bike Rebate in Canada?

No. As of April 2026, there is no federal e-bike rebate program in Canada. The federal government has not introduced national incentives for e-bikes equivalent to the iZEV program for electric cars.

Advocates and cycling organizations have lobbied for federal action — particularly given that countries like France offer national e-bike bonuses of up to €400 — but no program has been announced at the federal level. All active incentives remain at the provincial or municipal level.

This is worth keeping in mind for policy discussions: Canada's patchwork of local programs creates real inequity. A rider in BC can stack the PST exemption, Scrap-It rebate, and (when relaunched) the CleanBC Go Electric rebate for over $2,000 in total savings. A rider in Ontario outside Toronto currently has access to nothing.

Tips for Maximizing Your E-Bike Savings in Canada

Stack programs where you can

Multiple incentives can often be combined. A BC resident with an old vehicle can use the BC Scrap-It rebate ($750) on top of the BC PST exemption (7% off) — and if the CleanBC Go Electric program relaunches, potentially stack all three. A Banff resident can stack the Banff residential rebate with the Alberta Scrap-It program. Always check whether a program explicitly prohibits stacking before assuming you can.

Timing matters

Programs close when funding runs out — sometimes with very little notice. The CleanBC Go Electric program ran out of funds in August 2025 with minimal warning. If a program is active and you're on the fence, apply sooner rather than later. Government rebates rarely improve over time, and they often disappear overnight.

Check the motor wattage carefully

PEI and several other programs cap motor wattage at 500W continuous. Many e-bikes — particularly those marketed as "750W" or "Class 3" — may have peak power ratings above 500W but continuous ratings at or below 500W. Check the bike's spec sheet, not just the marketing name. Your retailer should be able to confirm the continuous wattage.

Keep your receipts and documentation

Post-purchase rebates require proof of purchase, proof of residency, and sometimes income documentation. Keep everything from the day you purchase: invoice, proof of delivery, bank statement showing payment. Rebate applications rejected for missing documentation are common and frustrating.

Check if your employer or city has a program

Beyond the programs listed here, some employers, credit unions, and municipalities have smaller programs that aren't widely advertised. Ask your HR department, check with your city's sustainability or transportation office, and look at your credit union's "green loans" program if you have one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Canada have a national e-bike rebate?

No. There is currently no federal e-bike rebate in Canada. All incentive programs are at the provincial, territorial, or municipal level.

What is the best e-bike rebate in Canada right now?

For BC residents, the combination of the BC PST exemption (automatic 7% off) and BC Scrap-It ($750 with vehicle trade-in) is the strongest currently active stack. When the CleanBC Go Electric individual rebate relaunches (expected late spring 2026), low-income BC residents will be able to access up to $1,400 on top of those.

Is the Nova Scotia e-bike rebate still available?

No. The Nova Scotia Electrify/EV Assist e-bike rebate ended on April 4, 2025. There is currently no active provincial e-bike rebate in Nova Scotia.

Is the Yukon e-bike rebate still available?

No. The Yukon Clean Energy E-Bike Rebate ended March 31, 2026. If you purchased an e-bike in Yukon before that date, you may still be able to apply for up to one year after your purchase date.

Can I get a rebate on a cargo e-bike for my business in BC?

The CleanBC Go Electric cargo e-bike rebate (up to $1,700) is currently paused but expected to relaunch late spring 2026. It covers businesses, nonprofits, and public sector organizations in BC. Monitor pluginbc.ca for the relaunch.

Does BC still have the e-bike rebate for individuals?

The CleanBC Go Electric individual rebate ($350–$1,400 income-based) is paused as of August 2025. A new funding round is expected late spring 2026. The permanent BC PST exemption and BC Scrap-It program ($750) remain active.

What e-bikes qualify for Canadian government rebates?

Requirements vary by program, but most Canadian rebate programs require: an electric motor ≤500W continuous output, a maximum assisted speed of ≤32 km/h, human-powered pedals, and a retail price of at least $1,200. Some programs also require safety certifications (UL 2849, EN 15194, CSA) or exclude second-hand bikes. Always verify against the specific program's rules.

Is there an e-bike rebate in Ontario?

As of April 2026, there is no province-wide e-bike rebate in Ontario. Toronto City Council has approved a motion for a municipal e-bike tax incentive, but no official program or application process exists yet. Ontario residents outside Toronto currently have no access to provincial or municipal e-bike incentives.

Is there an e-bike rebate in Alberta?

Yes — the Alberta Scrap-It program offers $500 toward an e-bike when you scrap a qualifying vehicle. Banff residents can additionally access the Banff residential rebate (up to $1,000 based on income tier). The City of Edmonton's e-bike rebate ended in October 2023 and has not been renewed.
