eBike controllers are the brain of your electric bike system — managing power delivery from the battery to the motor in response to pedal assist, throttle, and brake sensor inputs.
What does an eBike controller do?
The controller receives signals from the pedal assist sensor, throttle, speed sensor, and brake sensors, then regulates the electrical current flowing from the battery to the motor. It determines how much power the motor receives at any given moment, shaping the riding experience.
What voltage and amperage controller do I need?
Match your controller's voltage to your battery (36V or 48V) and select amperage based on your motor's power requirement: 15A for 350W, 17–22A for 500W, 25A+ for 750W. Using a mismatched controller can damage the motor or battery.
Are ENVO controllers compatible with third-party motors?
ENVO controllers are optimised for ENVO motors and their specific phase and hall sensor wiring configurations. While some ENVO controllers can work with compatible third-party motors, ENVO recommends using matched ENVO motor-controller combinations for guaranteed performance and warranty coverage.
Can I program an eBike controller?
Many eBike controllers — including ENVO's LCD3 and Bafang systems — allow parameter customisation through a PC programming cable. Adjustable parameters include speed limit, assist levels, motor current limits, and wheel diameter settings. This enables fine-tuning for specific rider preferences.
What is a waterproof controller?
Waterproof controllers (rated IP65 or higher) are sealed against water intrusion, making them suitable for year-round BC riding in rain. Standard controllers may fail if water enters the housing. Waterproof controllers are strongly recommended for any outdoor commuting application.
